townhouses for the future

The architecture honours the heritage character of the surrounding precinct, presenting a timeless composition designed to endure. Warm, organic and texturally rich, the timeless materiality serves as an exquisite canvas for the landscaping, allowing the lush greenery to take centre stage. The inclusion of rounded edges brings a sense of grace and fluidity to the facade, artfully juxtaposed by a series of contemporary, angular forms.

The making of a Forever Home
with Gonzalo Ascui.

What is the design philosophy behind Hawthorn House?

First and foremost, Hawthorn House is designed to be a ‘forever home’. A forever home is a place that has got everything you could ever want, is comfortable, and allows residents to form new memories and emotional connections.

Can you tell us about the ways in which these homes are designed for the future?

The forever home concept is embedded in many aspects of the design, including its future-proofing. This doesn’t just mean technology, but also adaptable, low-maintenance design solutions that eliminate the need for future renovations. For example, utilising timeless, high quality materials and flexible floor-plans. Accessibility is a really important consideration in a forever home, as well as being conscious of things like old age. Each home has a lift, which connects every level from the basement all the way to the roof terrace, and the majority have no steps. The homes are also future-proofed in that they consider sustainability. They’re gas free, set-up for electric vehicle charging and solar panels, and are equipped with heat pumps. There’s also many intangible sustainability elements such as high thermal insulation, fantastic cross ventilation opportunities and plentiful natural light.

How have convenience and storage been considered?

There is ample storage throughout each home. Firstly, people want a deluxe kitchen where they can entertain easily and not have everything out on display. Because of this, we’ve included a walk-in pantry that allows all your appliances to be put away. Drawers are a big feature of the kitchen design because they’re much more convenient and accessible than cupboards. The master bedrooms offer large, functional walk-in robes with drawers, double rails and a pull-down device for accessibility. The robes actually feel more like walk-in rooms because all the storage is behind doors, which eliminates dust. Each home also features a double garage with extra storage nooks within.

What are some of the other features that make these homes truly special?

Definitely the large master retreat! It has sweeping outlooks and a really sumptuous, hotel-style ensuite complete with double basins, stone benchtops, and a separated enclosed shower and toilet. Every house also has a proper study which is near bedroom size, with a window, built-in desk, storage cupboards and pinboards. The built-in bar is also really special, complete with a wine fridge, stone shelves and beautiful LED lighting.

The interiors of Hawthorn House epitomise the longevity, versatility and convenience of a genuine ‘forever home’. Each home balances modern sophistication with timeless character, defined by ample light, expansive proportions, and meticulously crafted design details. The finishes palette exudes texture and natural beauty, embracing timber joinery, oak flooring, organic marble surfaces and exquisite mosaic tiles. With a seamless integration of indoor-outdoor living and abundant storage solutions woven throughout, these generously-sized homes evoke the essence of a standalone home.
